Wellness Over 60: Embracing a Technological & Holistic Approach to Longevity
Aging is an inevitable part of life, but how we age is increasingly within our control. Having personally passed the 60 milestone, I’m increasingly aware of the passage time and its health implications. In fact, it led to writing a book devoted to the subject in 2020 titled “Deep Health: Using Artificial Intelligence to Live Longer & Healthier” (Amazon). The focus - healthspan, wellness and AI tools.
Healthspan & Wellness
Health span, the period of life spent in good health and free from major chronic diseases or disabilities, has become a critical metric in aging research. While life expectancy has increased in the Western world, understanding how long individuals remain healthy is equally important.
Here I examine statistical trends, key determinants, and policy implications for improving health span among people aged 60 and above in Western countries. The analysis relies on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Eurostat, and national health databases from the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Key metrics include:
Healthy Life Years (HLY): The number of years lived without severe disability or chronic illness.
Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY): A measure combining years of life lost due to early mortality and years lived with disability.
Chronic Disease Prevalence: Incidence rates of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders.
